Xiuching Tsay’s Story
What did you make during residency?
I made paintings and I made friends.
What were the connections as friendships that you developed during your time at PLOP?
There were other resident artists who came from other countries, we hung out every day, had long walks together, and shared funny stories. They become my good friends now and we are still keeping in touch.
As a London based artist, what did you gain from taking part in PLOP?
I participated in the PLOP program right after my graduation from RCA. So, it helped me to broaden my experience to the UK art scenes. We visited a lot of exhibitions of talented emerging artists, spoke to many artists that I didn’t know before.
Share a favourite memory of your time during the residency.
Late dinner at the Indian restaurant around Holborn. It was a hidden gem.
What have you been up to in the last 18 months since PLOP?
Since I finished the Plop residency, I had a solo show and a few groups shows in London and other cities. Currently, because of Covid-19, I am back in my hometown (Thailand) mostly paint in my home studio and I have also just started a collaborative project with my 2 friends called ‘Fungus’. A fun activity that allows anyone from different backgrounds to freely communicate through art medium. And I will soon come back to London.
